In India, telephone numbers are governed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. The country has a unique numbering plan, known as the National Telephone Numbering Plan (NTNP), which assigns fixed line and mobile phone numbers in a specific format. The NTNP consists of 10 digits for fixed lines and 11 digits for mobile numbers, including a unique area code and a local number.
